Conversations that sound more of argument than discussion;
Sobs that rack shoulders and soak shirts;
Laughter that rings in ears long after it has left the throat;
I rest in this loud quiet.
How closely tears and laughter sit side by side. When I was reading this, I was thinking of laughter that silently racks shoulders and causes tears, the gasping when no more noise can come out, the slapping of thighs in an effort to communicate, “No! Please stop making me laugh so hard! I can’t take any more”, but which silently also says, “I haven’t laughed this hard in years!”.
